Last updated: May 10, 2026. Event strategies updated for the current Monster Legends event rotation pattern. The Spring 2026 event schedule is reflected in the planning section.

Why Events Are Your Best Source of Progression

Events are where Monster Legends gives away its best rewards. A single well-played event can net you a Legendary or even Mythic monster, millions in gold and food, and premium runes—all without spending gems. Players who skip or half-play events progress at a fraction of the speed of those who participate.

Monster Legends rotates through several event types, each with different mechanics and strategies. This guide covers all of them.

Event Type 1: Maze Events

Maze events are the most common and arguably the most important event type. You navigate a branching path grid, collecting rewards at each node.

How Maze Events Work

MechanicDetail
Entry costMaze coins (earned from Adventure Map, dungeons, daily missions)
MovementSpend coins to move to adjacent nodes
RewardsMonsters (including exclusives), food, gold, runes, gems, cells
Duration7-10 days
Main prizeUsually a Legendary or Mythic monster at the end of a path

Maze Strategy: Path Selection

Not every node is worth collecting. Here’s the priority system:

Node TypeCollect?Reason
Monster egg/cellsAlwaysPrimary reason to run the maze
GemsAlwaysPremium currency is always worth 5-15 coins
High-tier runes (Level 5+)UsuallyGood value; saves rune farming time
Food (10,000+)UsuallyWorth the coin cost
Gold (100,000+)SometimesDepends on how many coins you have
Low food (< 5000)SkipNot worth the coin cost
Low gold (< 50,000)SkipNot worth the coin cost
Low-tier runes (Level 1-3)SkipYou’ll get better runes elsewhere

Maze Strategy: Coin Management

  • Never let maze coins cap. The maximum is 600. Collect them from your inbox before they expire (24-hour expiry).
  • Plan your route before spending. Look at the full maze map (community maps are posted on Reddit and the Monster Legends Wiki within hours of event launch).
  • Calculate coin requirements. If the main prize is 3,000 coins away and you earn ~400/day, you need 7.5 days—check the event timer.
  • Save coins between Maze events. Leftover coins DO carry over to the next Maze, but only up to 600.

Expected Maze Rewards (F2P, Full Participation)

Reward CategoryTypical Haul (7-day Maze)
Monster1 Legendary OR 1 Mythic (main prize)
Monster cellsEnough to Rank 3 one monster
Food200,000 – 500,000
Gold1,000,000 – 3,000,000
Gems50 – 150
Runes2-5 high-tier runes

Event Type 2: Race Events

Race events are PvP-like competitions where you compete against other players on a progress track. The farther you progress, the better your rewards.

How Race Events Work

MilestonesReach point thresholds to claim rewards

Race Strategy: Preparation Is Everything

The key to winning Races is preparing before the event starts:

  1. Stockpile eggs. Keep 3-4 eggs ready in your hatchery. Don’t hatch them until the Race starts.
  2. Save food. Stop feeding monsters 2-3 days before an expected Race.
  3. Save gold. Uncollected habitat gold can be claimed during the Race for instant point bursts.
  4. Save dungeon keys. Cap at 3/3 before the Race starts, then spend them all when the Race is live.
  5. Drop PvP rank. Lose some matches on purpose before the Race to get easier opponents for quick wins.

Race Strategy: During the Event

PhaseWhat to Do
First hourClaim all saved eggs, food, gold, and dungeon keys for instant points; surge to top 10
MiddleConsistently complete tasks; run short breeding timers; win PvP matches
Last hourSpend any saved resources; snipe leaderboard position
Gem usageOnly spend gems if you’re 1-3 spots away from the exclusive monster in the last 30 minutes

Event Type 3: Puzzle Events

Puzzle events require you to solve a grid-based puzzle by moving tiles. It’s the most F2P-friendly event type.

How Puzzle Events Work

MechanicDetail
TokensEarned from Adventure Map, dungeons, and missions
Puzzle board3x3 to 5x5 grid with face-down tiles
FlipsSpend tokens to flip tiles; matching pairs give rewards
Duration5-7 days

Puzzle Strategy

  1. Always flip the guaranteed monster tile path. Community guides show which tiles contain the monster—prioritize those.
  2. Don’t try to flip every tile. Focus on the tiles with monster cells, gems, and high-value runes.
  3. Tokens are limited. You won’t have enough to clear the board; budget accordingly.
  4. Use a screenshot or notes. Track which tiles you’ve flipped to avoid wasting tokens on known junk tiles.

Event Type 4: Team Dungeons

Team Dungeons require coordination with your Team members to clear nodes and defeat bosses.

How Team Dungeons Work

MechanicDetail
Node typesBattle nodes, puzzle nodes, donation nodes
ProgressEach node cleared by a team member advances the dungeon
BossAt the end of each floor, a boss must be defeated by multiple members
RewardsDistributed to all participants based on contribution
Duration5-7 days

Team Dungeon Strategy

RoleWhat to Do
Heavy hittersFocus on the boss; use your best team
Mid-level playersClear puzzle and donation nodes
Newer playersContribute to donation nodes; even small contributions add up

Key tip: Donation nodes are the easiest way for lower-level players to contribute significantly. Donate gold and food rather than battling if your team is underleveled.

Event Type 5: Breeding Events

Covered in detail in our Breeding Guide. Key reminders:

  • Breeding events have limited-time parents—you must use specific monsters during the event window
  • The event island is separate from your regular Breeding Mountain
  • Breed timers on the event island are typically shorter than normal (50-70% of normal time)
  • Start your last breed before the timer expires—the breed can finish after the event ends

Monthly Event Rotation (Typical Pattern)

Monster Legends follows a roughly predictable event schedule:

Week of MonthEvent TypeTypical Reward Tier
Week 1MazeLegendary monster
Week 2Team DungeonMonster cells + resources
Week 3RaceExclusive Legendary/Mythic (top 3)
Week 4Breeding EventExclusive breedable monster

Events often overlap by 1-2 days. During overlaps, prioritize: Race > Maze > Breeding > Team Dungeon.

Event Gem Spending: When It’s Worth It

In general, play events F2P. The rare exceptions where gems are worth spending:

SituationRecommended SpendWhy
Race: 3rd place, 30 min left, 500 pts behind50-100 gems on energy refillsExclusive monsters are worth 500+ gems
Maze: 50 coins short of main prize on last day25 gems for coin packLegendary/Mythic for 25 gems is incredible value
Breeding: Guaranteed Legendary from event island50 gems total on speed-upsLegendaries cost 500+ gems in shop
Regular Maze day 20 gemsNever worth it this early
