Understanding Islands and Habitats
Your islands are the foundation of your Monster Legends economy. Every habitat you place generates passive gold, and every monster you house contributes to your collection, breeding pool, and combat roster. A well-organized base produces 2-3x more gold than a haphazard one.
Complete Island List and Unlock Order
Monster Legends currently has 12 islands. Here’s the optimal unlock order with costs and priorities:
| Unlock Order | Island | Cost (Gold) | Unlock Level | Primary Use | Priority |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Main Island | Free | Level 1 | Starter habitats, Breeding Mountain, Hatchery | — |
| 2 | Nature Island | 50,000 | Level 8 | Nature habitats + Nature Temple | High |
| 3 | Fire Island | 150,000 | Level 12 | Fire habitats + Fire Temple | High |
| 4 | Water Island | 500,000 | Level 18 | Water habitats + Water Temple | High |
| 5 | Magic Island | 1,500,000 | Level 25 | Magic habitats + Magic Temple | Medium |
| 6 | Dark Island | 3,000,000 | Level 30 | Dark habitats + Dark Temple | Medium |
| 7 | Light Island | 5,000,000 | Level 35 | Light habitats + Light Temple | Medium |
| 8 | Thunder Island | 3,000,000 | Level 32 | Thunder habitats + Thunder Temple | Medium |
| 9 | Earth Island | 4,000,000 | Level 34 | Earth habitats + Earth Temple | Medium |
| 10 | Metal Island | 6,000,000 | Level 40 | Metal habitats + Metal Temple | Low |
| 11 | Ice Island | 6,000,000 | Level 42 | Ice habitats + Ice Temple | Low |
| 12 | Legendary Island | 10,000,000 | Level 50 | Premium habitats, organization | Lowest |
Early game priority: Unlock Nature, Fire, and Water Islands as soon as possible. They’re cheap and provide essential habitat space for your first breeding projects.
Habitat Types and Gold Production
Basic Elemental Habitats
| Habitat Type | Base Gold Capacity | Max Level Capacity | Monsters per Habitat | Best For |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Nature Habitat | 25,000 | 250,000 (Lv10) | 3 | Highest basic income; fill first |
| Fire Habitat | 20,000 | 200,000 (Lv10) | 3 | Many Fire monsters from breeding |
| Water Habitat | 18,000 | 180,000 (Lv10) | 3 | Water monsters are easy to obtain |
| Magic Habitat | 30,000 | 300,000 (Lv10) | 2 | High ceiling but only 2 slots |
| Dark Habitat | 28,000 | 280,000 (Lv10) | 2 | High income, Dark monsters are valuable |
| Light Habitat | 28,000 | 280,000 (Lv10) | 2 | Similar to Dark, harder to fill |
| Thunder Habitat | 22,000 | 220,000 (Lv10) | 2 | Decent income |
| Earth Habitat | 20,000 | 200,000 (Lv10) | 2 | Lower priority |
| Metal Habitat | 35,000 | 350,000 (Lv10) | 2 | Highest single-habitat income |
| Ice Habitat | 25,000 | 250,000 (Lv10) | 2 | Solid income |
Special Habitats
| Habitat | Capacity | Slots | How to Get | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Legendary Habitat | 500,000 (max) | 3 | Events or 250 gems | Best habitat in the game; worth gems |
| Mythic Habitat | 600,000 (max) | 3 | Special events only | Extremely rare; S-Tier placement priority |
| Crystal Habitat | 400,000 (max) | 2 | Maze/Race event rewards | High capacity, limited availability |
Habitat Upgrade Priority
Gold spent upgrading habitats pays for itself in 1-2 weeks. Prioritize upgrades in this order:
| Priority | Action | Why |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Upgrade 2-3 Nature Habitats to Level 5 | Your first monsters are Nature; maximize early income |
| 2 | Upgrade active Fire/Water Habitats to Level 3 | Support breeding projects |
| 3 | Max out 1 Legendary Habitat (if owned) | Highest ROI habitat |
| 4 | Upgrade habitats with Gold-traited monsters | Gold trait + high-level habitat = exponential returns |
| 5 | Bring all commonly used habitats to Level 5 | Consistent gold floor |
Optimal Base Layout Principles
The Central Hub Design
Place these buildings in the center of your Main Island for efficient access:
| Building | Placement | Reason |
|---|---|---|
| Breeding Mountain | Center | Most frequently used building. See Breeding Guide for combination recipes. |
| Hatchery | Adjacent to Breeding Mountain | Minimize travel between breeding and hatching |
| Temples | Edge of main island | Accessed less frequently; don’t waste center space |
| Farms | Grouped together on one island | Keep food production in one zone |
Island Specialization
As you unlock more islands, dedicate each to a purpose:
| Island | Specialization | What to Place |
|---|---|---|
| Main Island | Operations hub | Breeding Mountain, Hatchery, Farms, Temples, 2-3 key habitats |
| Nature Island | Nature habitats only | 8-10 Nature habitats, Nature Temple |
| Fire Island | Fire habitats only | 8-10 Fire habitats, Fire Temple |
| Water Island | Water habitats | Water habitats + Temple |
| Magic Island | Magic + overflow | Magic habitats + overflow from full islands |
| Dark Island | Dark habitats | Dark habitats + Temple |
| Later Islands | Element habitats + decoration | One element per island |
Space Efficiency Tips
- Habitats are 3x3 or 4x4. Plan your grid to fit them without gaps.
- Don’t place temples on element islands. Temples on the main island free up space on dedicated islands for more habitats.
- Group buildings by use frequency. The buildings you tap most (Breeding, Hatchery, Farms) should be closest to where your screen opens.
- Leave paths between habitat blocks. Makes collecting gold easier without mis-tapping.
Gold Collection Optimization
Collection Frequency
The ideal collection frequency depends on how upgraded your habitats are:
| Habitat Level | Gold Cap Reach Time | Recommended Collection |
|---|---|---|
| 1-3 | ~2 hours | Every 2-4 hours |
| 4-6 | ~4 hours | Every 4-6 hours |
| 7-8 | ~6-8 hours | 3x per day (morning, afternoon, evening) |
| 9-10 | ~10-12 hours | 2x per day (morning, night) |
Collection Strategy
| Strategy | When to Use |
|---|---|
| Tap each habitat individually | When you have time; collects full amount |
| Collect All button | When in a hurry; slight gold loss but time-efficient |
| Gold production monsters | Place in highest-level habitats for maximum passive income |

Temple Placement and Upgrades
Temples boost elemental damage and resistance. They don’t generate gold but are critical for combat.
| Temple | Element | Upgrade Priority | When to Upgrade |
|---|---|---|---|
| Fire Temple | Fire | High | After Fire Island unlocked |
| Nature Temple | Nature | High | After Nature Island unlocked |
| Water Temple | Water | Medium | Mid-game |
| Dark Temple | Dark | Medium | Mid-game |
| Magic Temple | Magic | Medium | Mid-game |
| Light Temple | Light | Low | Late game |
| Thunder Temple | Thunder | Low | Late game |
| Earth Temple | Earth | Low | Late game |
| Metal Temple | Metal | Lowest | Late game |
| Ice Temple | Ice | Lowest | Late game |
Late-Game Base Organization
When you have 8+ islands and 50+ habitats, organization becomes critical:
- Elemental islands (one per element): Fill each entirely with habitats of that element + its temple
- Overflow islands: For elements where you have more monsters than habitat slots
- Vanity island: Use one island for decoration and event buildings (they don’t need to be efficient)
- Operating island (Main): Breeding Mountain, Hatchery, Farms only — move all habitats to dedicated islands
