Mistake #1: Building Your First Base at Spawn

The starting area looks safe and convenient. It’s actually the worst base location on the map.

FactorSpawn AreaFort Ruins Plateau (200, -350)
Ore nodes0-15-8
Flat buildable landSmall patchesLarge plateau
Natural defensesNoneCliff walls on 3 sides
Fast travel proximityFar from boss towersNear multiple fast travel points
Raid vulnerabilityHigh — exposedLow — natural chokepoints

Fix: Use the spawn base temporarily (levels 1-10). As soon as you have a flying mount, scout the Fort Ruins plateau and move your base. The Palbox relocation cost is minimal.

Mistake #2: Ignoring Work Suitability Traits

Catching Pals with good combat stats but terrible work traits = a base that produces nothing efficiently.

TraitEffectPriority
Artisan+50% Work Speed#1 — catch these immediately
Serious+20% Work Speed#2
Work Slave+30% Work Speed, -30% Attack#3 — negative doesn’t matter for base Pals
Lucky+15% Work Speed, +15% Attack#4
Slacker-30% Work SpeedKill or sell — never assign to base

Fix: When catching Pals for your base, check traits before assigning. A level 5 Lamball with Artisan outproduces a level 20 Lamball with no traits. Breed Artisan onto your core base Pals as soon as you unlock the Breeding Farm.

Mistake #3: Using the Wrong Pals for Each Job

Assigning Pals to jobs they don’t have suitability for = they do them at 1% efficiency.

JobRequired SuitabilityBest Early PalBest Mid-Game Pal
MiningMining 3+Rushoar, TombatAnubis, Astegon
KindlingKindling 3+FoxparksJormuntide Ignis, Blazehowl

HandiworkHandiwork 3+Lamball (low)Anubis (best), Lunaris
TransportingTransporting 3+Cattiva, KillamariHelzephyr, Wumpo

Fix: Assign Pals with suitability level 3+ to their matching jobs. Level 1 suitability is barely functional. Use the Monitoring Stand to manually assign Pals rather than letting the game auto-assign.

Mistake #4: Neglecting the Breeding Farm

Most beginners ignore breeding until level 30+. The Breeding Farm unlocks at level 19 and is the single most powerful progression tool.

What Breeding Gives YouWithout BreedingWith Breeding
Anubis (best Handiwork 4, Mining 3)Level 40+ wild catchLevel 19: breed Bushi + Penking
Artisan/Serious base PalsRandom wild catchesControlled breeding with desired traits
Perfect combat PalsRare wild catchesBreed specific traits onto any species

Fix: Unlock the Breeding Farm at level 19. First breed: Bushi + Penking = Anubis (sets up your entire base efficiency). Second breed: your two best combat Pals to pass traits to offspring.

Mistake #5: Carrying All Your Best Items

You die, drop everything, and can’t recover your corpse. Hours of resources gone.

Fix: Store valuable items (ingots, rare Pal souls, skill fruits, schematics) in a chest before any dangerous activity — boss fights, dungeon runs, exploring new high-level areas. Only carry what you need for the specific task plus emergency food and Pal Spheres.

Mistake #6: Sleeping on Pal Food Buffs

Raw Berries keep Pals alive, but they work slow and get depressed. Food buffs are multiplicative with work traits.

FoodBuffBest For
Jam-Filled Bun60 nutrition, no buff but efficientGeneral base feeding
SaladRestores 10 SANPreventing depression
Fried Chikipi+15% Work Speed (8 min)Burst production periods
Mammorest Curry+25% Attack (10 min)Boss fights

Fix: Replace raw Berries with Jam-Filled Buns as your base food source the moment you unlock a Mill and Wheat Plantation. One Wheat + 2 Berry plots feeds 15 Pals.

Mistake #7: Fighting Bosses Underleveled

Beginners see a boss tower, walk in at level 15 with 3 random Pals, and die instantly. Bosses don’t scale — they have fixed levels.

BossRecommended LevelRecommended Pals
Zoe & Grizzbolt15+3 Ground-type Pals at level 15+
Lily & Lyleen25+4 Fire-type Pals at level 25+
Orserk40+Full team of 5 at level 40+ with Ice/Ground types

Fix: Check the boss level before entering. Bring a full team of Pals 2-3 levels above the boss, all with type advantage. Bring 10+ combat food items.

Mistake #8: Ignoring the Pal Condenser

The Pal Condenser upgrades a Pal’s Partner Skill by sacrificing Pals of the same species. A max-condensed Pal has 20-40% stronger Partner Skills.

Fix: As you catch duplicate Pals, feed them to the Condenser to power up your main Pal’s Partner Skill. Prioritize condensing your main mount (speed boost) and your main combat Pal (damage boost).

Mistake #9: Sleeping Through Nights

Skipping night by sleeping wastes the best catching opportunity. Many rare Pals (Lunaris, Tombat, Felbat) are nocturnal and ONLY spawn at night.

Fix: Spend nights hunting nocturnal Pals for the 10-catch XP bonus. Craft a Torch or use a Foxparks as a light source. Nighttime XP from rare Pal catches often exceeds daytime grinding.

Mistake #10: Not Using Fast Travel

Walking everywhere in Palworld wastes enormous time. Beginners don’t activate fast travel points as they explore.

Fix: Activate EVERY fast travel eagle statue you see — even if you’re just passing through. The map is huge and you’ll need to revisit every region. A 30-second detour to activate a statue saves 10+ minutes of flying later.
