Why Food Matters in Palworld

Food isn’t just a hunger mechanic in Palworld — it’s a buff system, a work efficiency multiplier, and a breeding enabler. Pals with low hunger lose SAN (Sanity), which causes them to work slower, get sick, and eventually refuse to work entirely. Good food management is the difference between a base that runs itself and one that needs constant babysitting.

Jam-Filled Bun — The Base Economy Backbone

One Jam-Filled Bun gives ~60 nutrition (vs ~15 from raw Berries). A worker Pal eats one Bun every 10-15 minutes, meaning 4-6 Buns per Pal per hour. For a 10-Pal base, you need roughly 60 Buns per hour. Two Berry Plantations and one Wheat Plantation with a Mill produce enough for 15-20 Pals with surplus.

A-Tier: Strong Specialty Foods

Eikthyrdeer StewEikthyrdeer Venison + Mushrooms+10% Attack (8 min)Early-game combat
Fried ChikipiChikipi Poultry + Oil+15% Work Speed (8 min)Base workers (short boost)
PancakeFlour + Milk+10% Movement Speed (5 min)Exploration, traveling

Salad — The SAN Manager

Pals lose SAN when they work, get hungry, or take damage. Low SAN causes depression, fractures, and eventually “Incapacitated” status. Salad restores SAN directly rather than just feeding — it’s the only food that actively fixes mental state. Keep 20-30 Salads in reserve for emergencies when multiple Pals get sick simultaneously.

Raw Berries15 nutrition, Pals eat every 2 minutes — constant downtime
Raw MushroomsBetter than Berries but still raw, low nutrition
Cooked BerriesSlightly better than raw, still inefficient for workers
Raw Meat5 nutrition, risk of food poisoning

Pal Feeding Automation

Feed Box Management

RuleWhy
Put food in the FIRST slot of the Feed BoxPals eat from slot 1 first
Fill slot 1 with Jam-Filled BunsBest nutrition-per-ingredient for workers
Put 10-20 combat foods in slot 2Pals grab these when slot 1 is empty
Check Feed Box dailyHunger drain is constant even when you’re offline
Remove raw ingredientsIf a Pal puts raw Berries in, move them out

Food Stacking & Buff Mechanics

  • Combat buffs don’t stack. Eating a second Mammorest Curry overwrites the first — the timer resets, the buff doesn’t double.
  • Different food types do stack. +Attack from Curry + +Defense from Hamburger = both active. This is the endgame combat food combo.
  • Work speed buffs are multiplicative with Pal passives (Artisan, Serious, etc). A Pal with Artisan (+50% Work Speed) eating Fried Chikipi (+15% Work Speed) works at 165% base speed, not 150%.
