Why Food Matters in Palworld#
Food isn’t just a hunger mechanic in Palworld — it’s a buff system, a work efficiency multiplier, and a breeding enabler. Pals with low hunger lose SAN (Sanity), which causes them to work slower, get sick, and eventually refuse to work entirely. Good food management is the difference between a base that runs itself and one that needs constant babysitting.
S-Tier Foods: Must-Craft#
| Food | Ingredients | Effect | Best For |
|---|
| Mammorest Curry | Mammorest Meat + Spices + Rice | +25% Attack (10 min) | Boss fights, tower battles |
| Mozzarina Hamburger | Mozzarina Meat + Milk + Flour | +20% Defense, +15% Attack (10 min) | All-around combat |
| Jam-Filled Bun | 2 Berries + 1 Flour | Large nutrition, cheap | Base worker feeding |
| Cake | Flour + Red Berries + Milk + Egg + Honey | Required for breeding | Breeding Farm |
Jam-Filled Bun — The Base Economy Backbone#
One Jam-Filled Bun gives ~60 nutrition (vs ~15 from raw Berries). A worker Pal eats one Bun every 10-15 minutes, meaning 4-6 Buns per Pal per hour. For a 10-Pal base, you need roughly 60 Buns per hour. Two Berry Plantations and one Wheat Plantation with a Mill produce enough for 15-20 Pals with surplus.
A-Tier: Strong Specialty Foods#
| Food | Ingredients | Effect | Best For |
|---|
| Salad | Lettuce + Tomato | Restores 10 SAN | Breeding Pals, depressed Pals |
| Eikthyrdeer Stew | Eikthyrdeer Venison + Mushrooms | +10% Attack (8 min) | Early-game combat |
| Fried Chikipi | Chikipi Poultry + Oil | +15% Work Speed (8 min) | Base workers (short boost) |
| Pancake | Flour + Milk | +10% Movement Speed (5 min) | Exploration, traveling |
Salad — The SAN Manager#
Pals lose SAN when they work, get hungry, or take damage. Low SAN causes depression, fractures, and eventually “Incapacitated” status. Salad restores SAN directly rather than just feeding — it’s the only food that actively fixes mental state. Keep 20-30 Salads in reserve for emergencies when multiple Pals get sick simultaneously.
B-Tier: Good Value, Situational#
| Food | Best For | Rating |
|---|
| Bread | Cheap base food (1 Flour only) | 7/10 |
| Mushroom Soup | Early-game warmth (cold biomes) | 7/10 |
| Hot Milk | Cold resistance | 6.5/10 |
| Carbonara | +15% Defense, easy ingredients | 7/10 |
| Omelet | Decent nutrition, only needs Eggs | 6.5/10 |
C-Tier: Eat Only If Desperate#
| Food | Why C-Tier |
|---|
| Raw Berries | 15 nutrition, Pals eat every 2 minutes — constant downtime |
| Raw Mushrooms | Better than Berries but still raw, low nutrition |
| Cooked Berries | Slightly better than raw, still inefficient for workers |
| Raw Meat | 5 nutrition, risk of food poisoning |

Pal Feeding Automation#
Feed Box Management#
| Rule | Why |
|---|
| Put food in the FIRST slot of the Feed Box | Pals eat from slot 1 first |
| Fill slot 1 with Jam-Filled Buns | Best nutrition-per-ingredient for workers |
| Put 10-20 combat foods in slot 2 | Pals grab these when slot 1 is empty |
| Check Feed Box daily | Hunger drain is constant even when you’re offline |
| Remove raw ingredients | If a Pal puts raw Berries in, move them out |
Pal Diet by Role#
| Pal Role | Best Food | Why |
|---|
| Base worker (farming, mining, crafting) | Jam-Filled Bun | Cheap, high nutrition, minimal downtime |
| Base worker with low SAN | Salad | Restores SAN while feeding |
| Combat Pal (bossing) | Mammorest Curry | Max Attack buff |
| Combat Pal (tanking) | Mozzarina Hamburger | Balanced Attack + Defense |
| Mount (exploration) | Pancake | Movement Speed for faster travel |
| Breeding Pal | Salad + Jam-Filled Bun | SAN restoration + basic feeding |
Food Stacking & Buff Mechanics#
- Combat buffs don’t stack. Eating a second Mammorest Curry overwrites the first — the timer resets, the buff doesn’t double.
- Different food types do stack. +Attack from Curry + +Defense from Hamburger = both active. This is the endgame combat food combo.
- Work speed buffs are multiplicative with Pal passives (Artisan, Serious, etc). A Pal with Artisan (+50% Work Speed) eating Fried Chikipi (+15% Work Speed) works at 165% base speed, not 150%.
